Moodle Healthcheck - Making everyday admin tasks easier

Every Moodle administrator/developer has daily tasks that they perform.

Although many jobs can be automated during the cron there are often small jobs to do that can accumitively take up a lot of time.
I needed a to-do list system that would collate all my daily Moodle tasks and display them on one page. Read more »

Site Re-design

I've made some tweaks to my theme in Drupal.  The old one was a bit dark, this one is brighter and cleaner and now includes 3 useful feed blocks on the front page.  I'm quite pleased with it.

Moodle for Windows Mobile (pocket IE)

Following on from my iPhone detection script I have added the Windows CE User Agent.  When Moodle detects the WinCE browser tag it loads a new stylesheet called wince.css. Read more »

MoodleMoot 09 UK

This years MoodleMoot 09 was great.  The keynote by Martin (above) was very interesting.  The future of Moodle looks solid, and the addition of proposed Moodle API's will lead to so much more interactivity.

Imagine an iPhone app, an Adobe AIR app and seamless integration with other API's such as Twitter and Facebook.  I can't wait to get my hands on it. Read more »

Moodle iPhone Screenshots

We have finished our version of Moodle for the iPhone.  It is not an iPhone app but we have made it look like one.

The script uses a PHP script to determine the User Agent.  If the User Agent equals "iPhone" then we tell Moodle to load the iPhone stylesheet. Read more »

AJAX Moodle user search

Having found the user search on Moodle very cumbersome I decided it was time to create an AJAX driven user search.  Every time I used the old search and entered a filter I was prompted to remove it before performing a new search.

By using my new AJAX search, results are displayed as I type, this allows me to find users much faster.  I have added links next to the results so I can quickly go to the user profile pages, messages or Moodle detective.

New Moodle MP3 Player Skin

I have created a new skin for the MP3 player in Moodle.  It looks much better than the default one.  When I get more time I will create some more and make them available for download.

Full Screen Moodle FLV video

At last! I found the time to fix this!

The fact that Moodle does not support full screen FLV playback is something that has troubled me since day one.  The button is there and many staff and students complained that when clicked it did nothing. After sifting through the code I managed to gain a much deeper understanding of the player and noticed that the fullscreen attribute is not included in the standard Moodle distribution. Read more »

Speed up Moodle using indexes

Creating an index on the mdl_log table against info speeds up a standard Moodle installation.  Some users have reported huge performance increases, so much so that people have suggested that this be in the standard Moodle build by default.

So far I have noticed some improvements but nothing quite as fantastic as other users are reporting, having said that, maybe you may notice a speed increase to your site, try it leave me a comment here.
