Moodle

I am currently the VLE Manager at Leeds City College (formerly Park Lane College). I am responsible for the strategic and operational development of our in-house Moodle installation. Our Moodle installation is one of the finest in the UK.

I have spent many months tweaking and refining the system, creating stunning templates and fluid navigation. I have re-written many parts of the Moodle code to further enhance its functions and to ensure it sits seamlessly with our current IT infrastructure.

The template uses a mix of HTML, CSS, Javascript and AJAX.  The template allows the end-user to choose a colour palette during the session, this is stored as cookies so the settings are remembered when the user returns to the site.

There is also the option to strip away the css and leave a simple yellow on blue, or black on white colour palette.  Please visit the site and see for yourself.

2 Columns

The theme will only ever use 2 columns as I have merged both the left and the right column into 1.  By tweaking the source code it is now impossible for a user to move a block to the right column.  Thus keeping the layout intact at all times.

The header

The header is random and uses a PHP script that is called from the CSS file.  The script looks for header images in a specified folder and loads one at random.

The Moodle Bar

The Moodle bar is hard coded into the template and remains fixed at the bottom of the page.  Inside the Moodle bar are several included PHP files to display online users and messages.

But that's not all!

I have heavily modified the Moodle source code and this site is not all about the theme.  Many Moodle developers think that a theme alone will create a VLE like this one.  Please read some of my development blogs to see which areas of Moodle have been tweaked to produce some of my results.

Thank you for reading.
